From their sturdy bulldog mascot to their long institutional history, everything about Georgetown rocks, including, very literally, their school chant. “Hoya Saxa” is a cheer that melds the Greek word hoya (“what”) with the Latin word saxa (“rocks”), the latter being a nod to the football team’s nickname, the Stonewalls. Instead of rocking with the Stonewalls as an athletic nickname, though, Georgetown’s teams became known as the Hoyas – what a pivot, indeed.
